Centennial Blonde

2012 Batch #04 - Blonde (brewed 03/25/2012)

Third batch with the new Blichman Burner, this time Ryan used it for a 10 gallon Aletimate Warrior batch... and it pretty much kicked ass. There was no wind or breeze or anything, and all went well.  Oh, and we started @ 6:30 am.  No, really.

I used Ryan's gear for a blonde recipe I found on HomebrewTalk.com - all that nice weather last week had me in the mood for a nice easy drinker.  I nailed my OG and volume, but I missed my 20 minute hop addition... not a big deal though, I added it at 15.  Here is the recipe:

Mash at 150 degrees for 60 minutes (I was above 150 most of the time)

P.S. Mel is a trooper.... she painted the entire nursery by herself while we brewed

Poochie Porter

2012 Batch #01 - Robust Porter (brewed 01/29/2012)

I brewed 8 gallons at Ryan's house; 5g for me, and 3g for the BWCC Ice Bowl. I am going to have to come up with a "Llama" name for that one... Llama Squirts is the current leader in the clubhouse.

Had a brief issue with the rubber gasket on the propane regulator, but Ryan had a spare.  I still nailed both my OG and volume so that was nice.

I milled @ Scotzins and used nylon bags for the hops

Dubbel Saison de Trubbel

2011 Batch #08 - Saison de Trubbel
(brewed 07/03/2011)

Photobucket

Ryan came over on the day before Independance Day to brew a double batch of my award winning Saison de Trubbel. The logic was twofold here: we each had a saison in our mental queues, and we thought that doing a 10g test batch before the wedding brew would be a good idea. It was. Good times!

The OG was a little lower than expected - that was surely due to volume (which was high - wound up with about ~12g). However, I fully expect the FG to be close to zero, so the final ABV should be real close to the target. Our corrected OG was 1.057... not too shabby. We should start more brewdays off with waffles... a new tradition maybe? At least for Belgian brewdays for sure.

I have a little over 6 gallons in my fermentor... I pitched the yeast @ about 76 degrees or so. Oh, and I pitched the Saison Dupont dregs in my fermentor as well... why not?

Here are the planned numbers per beer tools:

Lightbulb v2.0

2010 Batch #11 - Haus Pale Ale (aka Lightbulb)
(brewed 12/31)

Photobucket

I joined Ryan at the Dubbel Dachs Brewhouse for his annual New Years Eve brew day. He brewed his birthday maibock, and I brewed Lightbulb again - I really loved v1.0 of this beer, and I have high hopes for v2.0!

My notes weren't much better this time, and I still do not have this recipe saved in beertools.

UPDATE: Lightbulb (HPA)

2010 Batch #9 - Haus Pale Ale (keg009)
Brewed: 11/6 OG: ??? (have to check my notes)
Kegged: 11/19 FG: ??? (~1.006)
ABV: ??? (~ 5% ABV)
Efficiency: TBD
Force carbed @ 30psi for ~24 hours
Served @ ~10psi

Brewed @ Dubbel Dachs with Edwin, only one pic from this brew day... go figure. Ryan hooked me up with the hops: he's a good guy.

I missed my gravity on brew day by a full point - but I was way over on my volume. Forgot to take my final gravity until after I kegged it (and cranked it up to 30psi) so I just drew a sample from the tap... but who knows how accurate it was at that point - there was still some cleaner in the line too.

Oh well... this is pretty much a sample brew for me anyway. I am not so sure how I feel about the style at this point. I am hoping this batch will sway my opinion one way or the other.

8 lbs. American 2-row
2 lbs. American Vienna
.5 lbs. Crystal Malt 60°L
1 oz. Cascade (Whole Leaf, 5.70 %AA) boiled 60 min.

I took pretty crappy notes, and do not even have the final recipe saved in beer tools or on my HDD. So.... yeah, there's that.

Best Bitter... with a twist

2009 Batch #8 - Cascade Bitter
(brewed 10/10)

The Boulder Woods Fighting Llamas tag finale is on November 14th, and since my Llama Brew was such an apparent hit last year, I figured I would give it another shot. I brewed an Ordinary Bitter for the occasion last year and decided to up the ante a bit to a Best Bitter this year... but with a twist.

The twist was minor - but it should be tasty. Instead of the traditional East Kent Goldings I went with all
Cascade on this one. Courtesy of Ryan, the Cascades were of the 5.7% AA, whole leaf, variety. It should add a nice American touch to a typically British style beer.

Here is the recipe I rolled with:

8.5 lbs. Maris Otter Pale info
.5 lbs. Crystal Malt 60°L info
1 oz. Cascade (Whole, 5.7 %AA) boiled 60 min. info
.5 oz. Cascade (Whole, 5.7 %AA) boiled 30 min. info
.5 oz. Cascade (Whole, 5.7 %AA) boiled 1 min. info
Yeast : Fermentis S-04 Safale S-04 info
Mash Schedule
* 153° F for 45 minutes
* 170° F for 10 minutes

I was not really planning on brewing this one today, but one thing lead to another and it was such a nice day, next thing I knew it was 2:30pm and I was on my deck heating my strike water. I came pretty darn close to nailing my OG, and wrapped things up my about 6pm. Good times.
